Walking Into Wanda's World

My Home Town

Prescott, Nevada Co., Arkansas

Earler on a page before, I spoke of the little saw-mill town I was raised at. Only fair that I mention the town that was I was born at and lived until I was 2 years old. The town of Prescott, Nevada Co., Arkansas.  Please set back and let me take you down memory lane.  Enjoy!

The pictures above and below are  pictures of Gulley Saw Mill when it was Junction City Lumber Company Manufacture And Wholesalers of Yellow Pine Lumber that were newspaper clipping.  It was operated on the Northeast side of Prescott, Nevada Co., Arkansas on Wildcat Road. I don't know when the saw-mill became Gulley Saw-Mill but  I do know that this is where my dad was working in 1956 when I was born. Gulley Saw-Mill is located on Wildcat Road between Hwy 67 and the railroad. There is nothing operating at that location now and haven't for a very long time.  My daddy work at Gulley Saw-Mill until 1958 when he moved to Beirne, Akransas (Clark Co.)  and started to work at the Beirne's Saw-Mill. That may when Gulley Saw-Mill shut down. I don't have a clue why Daddy left Gulley Saw-Mill.  This picture can be found at Nevada Co. Court house, in record 510, book 3, page 13, volume 80 and number 7.  The picture below can be found on the same as the one above and it is number 8 on the page.

Cora Donnell Hospital 1922 - 1960's.

I was born July 8, 1956 in Cora Donnell Hospital at Prescott, Nevada Co., Arkansas by my parents Clyde Melvin Roach and wife Lucille Beck.  My birth records show that my Dad work at Gulley Saw-Mill on Wildcat Road, Prescott, Arkansas on the same road that my parents lived at with my two older sisters. My doctor that deliver me was Dr. Charles Arnold. No,  the doctor is not kin to my husband and his family that we know of.  My mother was 5 feet tall and weighted 105 pounds when I was born and I was a 8 pounds and 23 inches long when I was born.  Mother's bigest baby of all four of my parents' children.  Oh, my doctor and hospital bill were paid by selling Daddy's milk cow.  If I am not wrong, two of my three sisters were born in this hospital, the other sister was born at a hospital in Hope, Hempstead Co., Arkansas.

Cora Donnell Hospital was built sometime in 1922 and was closed down some time in the 1960's.    According to one of the pictures on this page, a nursing home was built next door to the hospital.  I was told that the hospital was turn over to the nursing home after it closure and became part of the nursing home.
